One year ago today, on Monday, March 16, 2020, I saw friends for the last time in real life before going into lockdown the day after. It was not long, just went to get a paper from someone about a math lesson I’d missed and then stopped at someone else’s to give them back something I’d borrowed. Just a few minutes discussing with both of them. But even that, it was a lot.
Because that day marked when my social interactions with my friends have become almost entirely virtual.
The Friday before, on March 13, I went to school for…

I will always remember the day Donald Trump was elected as President of the United States of America.
For us in France, the results were coming in the night between Tuesday, November 8 and Wednesday, November 9.
There was a special edition on national radio, and I woke up several times in the night to tune in and listen to the latest news. When I went to bed, every single poll indicated that Hillary Clinton would win. Every time I woke up, it was becoming less and less sure. Until, at some point, around 5, when it became almost impossible.

Well, here we are. We’re turning the page on 2020. For good. We’ve made it through.
I cannot really describe how I’m feeling about it, honestly. I’m not really happy, and not even sad. Actually, I’m disappointed. Very disappointed.
This is how I feel about this year: we lost it. I feel like the pandemic took a full year away from me and the things I should have done this year. At my age, with the end of high school and the beginning of university, we’re supposed to have fun, spend time with our friends and make new ones, and…

Last Friday, an investigation revealed that our Ministry of Education had orchestrated the creation of a high school union in order to block other unions from getting coverage and to support the Government’s plans.
It was while the Yellow Vests movement was at its peak, with high schools blocked all across the country.
The Minister abused of his power, gave high positions to members of Macron’s party youth organization, and gave them fundings (65,000€) for nothing, while cutting funds to other long-established student unions. …

Two years ago today, a young Swedish girl started a school Strike to protest her leader’s inaction against the climate crisis.
This day, Greta started a Revolution. She gave millions of young people, who like me, didn’t believe in our power to make change, the opportunity to fight and have a voice. I will never be able to thank her enough for what the Fridays For Future movement gave me. Last year for the first anniversary of the Fridays For Future, I wrote this (https://medium.com/@ClementFavaron/about-fridays-for-futures-first-anniversary-by-clement-favaron-96685ccab9e). Everything that I said one year ago still stands. …

In the past days and weeks, we’ve witnesses Black Lives Matter protesters removing statues all over the world. A lot of people criticize these acts, saying it’s about erasing and rewriting history, even comparing it with what happens in 1984, by Orwell.
I’m going to ask yourself a simple question: when you see a statue, what do you think? What’s your reaction and thoughts?
Do you think that this statue is there for educational purposes? To remember something bad? No. Absolutely no. A statue is used to commemorate something. Its purpose is to honor and celebrate someone. …

Two weeks ago, Iranian 14-year-old Romina Ashrafi ran away from home with her older boyfriend after her father refused to allow them to marry.
They were arrested by the police five days later. Romina repeatedly said she was fearing for her life, and that her father would be violent. The police officers didn’t listen. She was sent back home.
In the night of May 21, she was killed by her father while she was sleeping.
He beheaded her.
With a sickle.
Il y a deux semaines, Romina Ashrafi, iranienne de 14 ans s’est enfuie de chez elle avec l’homme, plus…

My only reason to believe that there was still a small chance to ever have a good future has just vanished today.
Bernie Sanders will never be the President of the United States.
I could not be more heart-broken that what I feel right now. It may seem weird, as I live in France, but I have rarely felt that left aside. This Election was not about a country, it was about everyone’s future.
Whatever happens, in the best and worst case, a rapist will live in the White House for the next four years.
I know it should be…
